David DesRochers
Somerset, New Jersey, USA
How and when did you start creating art?
My passion for photography was sparked by a trip to Glacier National Park in the summer of 2000. Exploring this amazing National Park with my camera in hand inspired me to study the
art of photography and capture the beauty of our natural world.
What media and genres do you work in?
Photography
Who or what are your influences?
The work of Galen Rowell and Marc Adamus have influenced my landscape photography and Art Wolf inspired my approach to capturing wildlife. Impressionist painters such as Claude Monet inspired me to use my camera as a paint brush, and I have studied the art of Hudson River School painters and Thomas Kinkade to learn the use of light when composing and editing my images.
What was your inspiration for
Spring
?I have long admired the work of Pep Ventosa, and his work inspired the use of multiple exposure and camera motion techniques. The beauty of this cherry tree was an ideal subject.
Describe your creative process?
My approach to photography varies depending on the subject. The one constant is to work in the best light possible. The quality and direction of the light determines how and when I capture an image, and I always think about how I will edit the image in the digital darkroom. When photographing landscapes, I start wide then work my way into the scene, looking for details that others may not see.
What are you working on currently?
After 25 years, my style is still evolving. I am exploring new subjects and experimenting with new ways to use my camera to create images that are unique.
What are your near/long term goals as an artist?
I will continue to explore new ways to capture the world as I imagine it.
