Nina Tokhtaman Valetova
Brooklyn, New York, USA
Nina Tokhtaman Valetova is a New York based artist. She has been working as a painter since 1982. Nina's work explores the relationship between ancient cultures, mythologies, fantasy, metaphysics, and philosophy. Her paintings and drawings cannot be classified within a particular framework of definitions or styles. In general, Nina's art defies categorization, and each piece is often created in several styles. Nina is constantly searching for new ways to create art, and as a result, she has established the Synthesis Art Style in contemporary art, which combines suprematism, surrealism, cubism, abstract, and figurative arts.
How and when did you start creating art?
I studied art from age 12, graduating with a Master's degree in fine arts from university.
What media and genres do you work in?
I primarily work with oil painting on canvas, although I have also explored acrylics in the past. Additionally, I create artworks using colored pencils on paper and ink.
Through Synthesis Art Style, I integrate diverse artistic influences, combining surreal, cubist, figurative and abstract elements to forge innovative, boundary-pushing pieces.
Who or what are your influences?
Мy artistic journey began with inspiration from surrealist masters – Dali, George de Chirico, supremacist Malevich and Escher. As I explored the vast world of art, my style evolved into what I now call Synthesis Art Style, blending diverse influences into a distinct visual language.
What was your inspiration for
Far Way
?In this colored pencil artwork, I pursued multiple objectives. I aimed to create a multidimensional space overlaid with another plane featuring warped, colorful stripes. The surreal content evokes the atmosphere of an imaginary, fantastical world. This piece invites viewers on a distant journey into a realm of fantasy and imagination.
Describe your creative process?
Typically, I thoroughly plan the composition and color palette of my artwork beforehand. Often, I create sketches to visualize my ideas. When I start working, I already have a clear vision of how my completed piece should look.
What are you working on currently?
Currently, I'm busy preparing for an exhibition in Pennsylvania, which leaves me little time for creating new art. However, I'm mentally sketching out several ideas, planning to bring them to life soon.
What are your near/long term goals as an artist?
As an artist, I have several goals. Firstly, I strive to create many stunning artworks. I have a substantial collection of paintings and drawings that I'd like to sell, as I desire financial resources for travels and exhibiting my work internationally. Ultimately, financial independence would grant me the freedom to dedicate more time to my creative pursuits.
Where can people view/purchase your work (gallery, website, etc)?
