Theme: Black & White | Call For Entries | 74 images will be selected by the juror for exhibition at Praxis Gallery. Description: More than half a century after the advent of color film, black and white & monochromatic photography continues to capture our collective imagination. Utilizing tone, contrast, texture, and shape, monochromatic photography strips its subject to only the most essential visual elements; revealing a sense of soul, substance, and meaning – separate from the shifting sentiments, symbolism, and cultural associations of color imagery. Praxis Gallery seeks photographic works that demonstrate the fundamental qualities that make black and white photography an enduring, contemporary art form Juror: Ann Jastrab. Ann Jastrab, Executive Director for The Center for Photographic Art, is a champion of photographic artists. After earning her MFA in photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1995, she joined the resident faculty at the Maine Photographic Workshops and taught there for nearly a decade in both their year-round program and their intensive summer workshops. Prior to taking the position of executive director of CPA, she curated many exhibitions for RayKo during her tenure as gallery director – while also jurying, curating, and organizing numerous exhibitions for other national and international venues outside of the San Francisco Bay Area.
